Real Madrid was able to end the first round in La Liga on a positive note on Wednesday evening. On the nineteenth matchday in the Spanish league, the Royal Krap won 1-0 against Mallorca and Siebe Van der Heyden.

Van der Heyden was in his first starting position since the end of September for his very first match against the fourteen-time Champions League winner and immediately made his presence felt in the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. The 25-year-old Belgian climbed high after just a few seconds in an aerial duel with Dani Carvajal, but elbowed the Spanish international in the face, resulting in a yellow card in the first minute.

The early commotion in the game did not inspire much enthusiasm during the rest of the first half. Real had difficulty with the Mallorcan wall, the islanders mainly tried via the counter, but were unable to take advantage of a sometimes wavering Real defense. On the half hour, Vinicius Junior shot the best chance against the outside of the post.

At the start of the second half, Mallorca coach Javier Aguirre did not want to take any risks and immediately took Van der Heyden to the side. The visitors also hit the post via Samu Costa, who got away extremely well, when goalkeeper Rajkovic saved Rodrygo’s ball from the corner and substitute Brahim Diaz incomprehensibly headed the rebound against the goal post. Just under ten minutes before the end, the renovated Santiago Bernabeu breathed a sigh of relief when Antonio Rüdiger (78.) headed Luka Modric’s corner into the goal.
