The pressure to win the home match against AA Gent was clearly present at Zulte Waregem after the disappointing and goalless 1 in 15. With the 3-2 win, Essevee keeps its chances of Play-off 1 good and can now look forward to the derby at Club YLA with confidence.
After an hour of play, there was no longer any lack of efficiency at Essevee in the important match against AA Gent. The 3-0 lead was enough – with the necessary trembling money – for a 3-2 victory and a much-needed three-pointer. “ Elke Van Gorp’s 1-0 was a liberation after those five matches without goals,” Imani Prez looks back. “We were also able to extend that lead in a convincing manner. There seemed to be no problem, but at the end of the match it was still a struggle to keep the three points at home. After the 3-2 we had to deal with a real rush from Ghent, but in the end we held on. After the many misery of the past few weeks, this is a big boost. Luck was on our side for once.”
It was already a matter of necessity for Essevee halfway through the season. With a view to the derby against Club YLA, things can now be done differently. “It was the confidence boost we needed, especially towards the top match against Club YLA. By the way, we still have a bone to pick with the people of Bruges after the undeserved 0-1 defeat in the first round,” Imani Prez is looking forward to Saturday’s derby. “If we can repeat the level of our match against AA Gent, we will certainly win points. We lost at home after a strong performance in the closing seconds against Blauwzwart. We are going all out for revenge. Saturday can’t come soon enough for us.”
