Brand new national coach Domenico Tedesco still has to wait for the completion of his coaching staff. The contracts of his permanent assistant Andreas Hinkel (40) and goalkeeper coach Max Urwantschky (41) have not yet been completed. “But that will be all right,” said Tedesco. Thomas Vermaelen is already disappearing from the staff of the Red Devils.

The new national coach previously worked with Hinkel and Urwantschky at Spartak Moscow and RB Leipzig. He has known Hinkel since his time as a youth coach at Stuttgart, and he met Urwantschky at his first job as head coach at Ergebirge Aue.

What is certain is that Thomas Vermaelen, assistant under Roberto Martinez, will not be included in Tedesco’s staff. “That was never a possibility,” says the new national coach. Two weeks ago, CEO Peter Bossaert had said that the football association wanted Vermaelen to stay. “That is still the case because we want to keep him with the union, but in a different position,” said Bossaert. There may also be no room for goalkeeper coach Erwin Lemmens.
