Tragedy in the world of football, 25-year-old Arne Espeel dies in Belgium after saving a penalty

On Saturday (11), Winkel Sport B played against SK Westrozebeke in a match valid for the Belgian amateur championship.

Already in the second half, when his team was winning the match by 2-1, the goalkeeper saved a penalty from Westrozebeke and fell unconscious after making a quick move.

The doctors acted quickly, made several attempts not to let the worst happen on the field and after that, they took Espeel to the AZ Delta Hospital, in Roeselare.

However, the archer did not resist and died, leaving his teammates in disbelief. That’s because the vast majority did not understand what exactly happened.

“Winkel Sport deeply regrets the sudden death of goalkeeper Arne Espeel. We wish his family and friends our most sincere condolences for this great loss. Football stops being so important for a while.”posted Winkel Sport on social media.

The referee of the match, Wadi Rabi, also regretted what happened: “We are all shocked. He’s been playing with us since he was a kid and he’s loved by everyone. It’s hard to believe something like this could happen to such a young man. body.”
