The Dutch are gradually starting to tremble: after a defeat against France, the European Championship seems to be in great danger

It is gradually five to twelve for the Dutch team in the hunt for a ticket for EURO 2024. They lost to France in Amsterdam.

Who else than Kylian Mbappé was at the gun in the Johan Cruijff ArenA? PSG’s star striker scored both goals for Les Bleus. First by outsmarting Lutsharel Geertruida in the box, then by wonderfully curling a bouncing ball over the outstretched arms of Bart Verbruggen. The former Anderlecht goalkeeper made his debut for the national team. At 21 years and 56 days, he was the youngest Dutch goalkeeper to make his debut since Jan van Beveren in 1969. Nice, but only a footnote. The same for the 1-2 in the end of Quilindschy Hartman.

Because Greece won 2-0 against Ireland, the Netherlands – for the first time in 42 years without an Ajax player in the starting line-up – drops to third place in the group with 9 points. The Greeks have 12 with one more match played. Scheduled for Monday: Greece – Netherlands. So it is already necessary for the Dutch team, which can go to the play-offs anyway due to the good performance in the Nations League. Three more European Championship tickets will be handed out in those play-offs.

France is certainly among them, with Mbappé who has now scored six times against the Netherlands and 42 times for Les Bleus in his career, one more than Michel Platini. Good for a perfect 18 out of 18 for Les Bleus and without conceding a single goal (13-0).
