Nothing to do with sore losers: why no one from Club Brugge goes to the Golden Shoe gala

You don’t have to look for outgoing winner Simon Mignolet or shadow favorite Andreas Skov Olsen on the red carpet. New CEO Bob Madou is also not making the move to Antwerp. Club Brugge will not send a delegation to the Golden Shoe Gala. Sore losers, we hear you think, knowing that the chance of Bruges’ medal of honor is only 0.0000005 percent. But it has nothing to do with that at all.

It’s like this: normally the Golden Boot would be awarded on January 11. That day, Club returned from its internship in Spain and would go to the ceremony. Organizer The last news however, decided to move the party to January 18, because most of the teams were on a training camp abroad on January 11 and too many football players would be absent. The consequence is that no one from the Club can now come: today, on January 18, Blauw-Black has the annual Charity Night, a major event with 800 commercial partners and all Club employees – players and board included. It was impossible for Club to schedule the Charity Night on another day so late.

That’s the reason why Club Brugge won’t be there during the show tonight. The people of Bruges would have liked to see it differently – no one likes to miss the Golden Shoe – but they preferred to donate to a good cause. Last year, 300,000 euros were raised.
