Vertonghen: “Now the fans are offering something nice against Sweden”

Jan Vertonghen was already at the World Cup in Brazil in 2014 and can now prepare for yet another major tournament. Yet he is not thinking about celebrating.

“Sweden is waiting again on Monday, then we want to offer the fans something nice. It is wonderful that we are achieving this with the new generation, we are the first to qualify. That’s great. Austria is a good team, it is not that easy to come here and win. The way they put pressure is great, we had some difficulty with it, but the coach made good adjustments at half time.”

Lukebakio: “It’s a dream”

Dodi Lukebakio was the man of the match with two goals. “At first I thought my second was the goalkeeper’s fault,” said the Sevilla striker. “In fact, it doesn’t matter much and I am very happy for myself, because I have been looking for my first goal for the national team for a long time. It really is a dream and just try to continue like this because this is just the beginning. I am happy for the team, we have shown character. But I also have a good feeling, if I can help the team like this every time, it would be fantastic.”

Doku: “After rest I could have been much more dangerous”

Jérémy Doku posed a lot of danger with his speed and technique. “In the first half I had few touches on the ball and I was up against three defenders,” Doku said afterwards. “After the break I moved more to the middle and I hit the ball a lot more and I was much more dangerous. As soon as I got out of the pressing, I knew there was a lot of room with Romelu (Lukaku) and Dodi (Lukebakio). At the end of the match I was very tired and had some cramps.”
