Lierse Kempenzonen loses a crucial appointment with Club NXT and must fear a doomsday scenario: “This defeat is a serious mental blow”

Football Challenger Pro League Club NXT – Lierse Kempenzonen 1-0
The dreaded doomsday scenario seems to be getting closer for the Pallieters, who suffered a very painful defeat at direct competitor Club NXT on Wednesday evening. The inhabitants of Lieren still retain their place in the top six, but on Saturday at the Lisp they had a knife to the throat against Beerschot in their fight for a place in the promotion play-offs.
Without supporters, Lierse Kempenzonen went to Schiervelde yesterday. The boycott did not immediately lead to unanimity among the yellow-black fans, but everything had to give way to the focus on the field. After all, three points were equal to heaven, in the event of a loss, the inhabitants of Lieren knocked at the gates of hell. Because Lierse Kempenzonen may still be parked in sixth place today, after the recent one in nine it will be a daring feat to hold onto its ticket for the promotion play-offs against Beerschot and Lommel.
No, on Schiervelde it was missed opportunity number two, after yellow-black left some goodies at RSCA Futures a week and a half ago to play it almost safe in the left column of the standings. None of that. Lierse Kempenzonen ran into a stagnant phase on his sixth goal against in 2023 yesterday. And that was fatal against a mediocre Club NXT.
“It really sucks”, captain Thibaut Van Acker sighed. “Six goals against in 2023 and each time at a standstill. I have no explanation for it. Naturally, it takes on a life of its own. With every corner we are almost shaking on our legs. It made sure that we had to chase again. Again. We have to pull ourselves out of the hole match after match after such an avoidable goal against. That is starting to weigh.”
But still. Lierse Kempenzonen certainly had the opportunity after the break to leave with at least a draw at Schiervelde. But scoring was not even possible against a team that, like the Pallieters themselves, had only kept a clean sheet twice this season.
“The chances were there, but we were confronted with the facts that a striker who has already scored twelve times is no longer ours. That’s a reality. You can’t blame anyone. We have tried to get the most out of it with the resources at our disposal. But we encounter our limitations. That is a reality.”
A home match against Beerschot and an outing to Lommel. In that diptych, the Pallieters have to keep their sixth place. “It will be damned difficult, but we will do everything we can”, Van Acker keeps up his courage. “We are raking a whole season to get to the top six. Then it would be a pity to die just before the end of the meet. We are recovering a number of fresh guys towards Saturday. This group must now above all continue to form one solid block. In the past we have often taken points on battle and mentality. We have to highlight those qualities in the next two weeks.”
