Manchester United will have to do without Christian Eriksen ‘until the end of April or the beginning of May’. The Danish international suffered an ankle injury on Saturday during the 3-1 FA Cup win against Reading.

“There is hope that Christian can return in time to play a part in the final stages of the competition,” the club website said. The midfielder has played 31 games so far this season. He was good for two goals and nine assists. Last summer, Eriksen signed a three-year deal at Old Trafford after moving from Brentford.

Eriksen moved from Tottenham to Inter Milan in 2021, but suffered a cardiac arrest in the match against Finland during the European Championship. The midfielder survived but was not allowed to play football in Italy because a defibrillator was implanted, which is prohibited in Italy. Manchester United threw out a lifeline and signed the midfielder.
