Club further slims core: Eder Balanta on his way to Schalke 04

Club Brugge will probably release another (superfluous) player: Eder Balanta is on his way to Schalke 04. The Colombian does not fit into coach Scott Parker’s plans and has also ended up next to the core in recent weeks.

For Balanta, just like for Eduard Sobol (Strasbourg) and Cyle Larin (Real Valladolid), a solution is therefore being sought. And the Colombian will probably find it in Germany now. Schalke 04 would like to take over the midfielder on a rental basis until the end of the season. It remains to be seen whether a final transfer will follow.

Balanta has been working at Club Brugge since 2019, but was never able to establish himself as an indisputable basic player. This season he only played 13 matches, or barely 323 minutes. In total, Balanta played 112 official matches for Club.

The talks with Schalke, the club where Michael Frey (ex-Antwerp) has recently started working, are going in the right direction. The deal isn’t done yet, though. Those Königsblauen could use some reinforcement: Schalke 04 is in a dismal last place in the Bundesliga with ten points and is therefore fighting for retention until the end of the season.
