VIDEO. Another serious knee injury for Calvin Stengs (ex-Antwerp) after a hard tackle from Belgian defender? “It was terrible to see”

A downer for Calvin Stengs and Feyenoord. The midfielder had to leave the field on a stretcher in the final minutes of the cup match against FC Groningen after a tackle by our compatriot Marvin Peersman

It is still unclear how serious the injury is, but Stengs was shaken and emotional on the field. “It was terrible to see, you hold your heart.” said coach Arne Slot for ESPN after the match. “An exact diagnosis cannot yet be made. It is clear that he is in pain. You saw him cry too. Hopefully that was also a bit of a shock. Let’s hope this boy is spared something serious.”

Stengs was sidelined for about fourteen months after the summer of 2017 with a serious knee injury. With a great assist, the former Antwerp player was responsible for David Hancko’s equalizer in the 62nd minute. Feyenoord eventually won the cup match 2-1 and will play the cup final against NEC.

Perpetrator Marvin Peersman is a 33-year-old Belgian defender. He trained at SK Beveren and ended up at the Dutch FC Dordrecht via Antwerp. After wanderings in Israel and Greece, Peersman signed with FC Groningen last summer.
