Then still a record transfer: not Nusa, but Thiago for 37 million euros to Brentford

Thiago will complete the season at Club Brugge after which he will make the switch. The Brazilian signs a five-year contract with Brentford. He has only been working for Blue-Black for six months. He will not stay in Bruges for longer than a season.

It is somewhat striking that Thiago is the Bruges native who is leaving for Brentford. During the entire transfer period, teammate Antonio Nusa seemed to be moving to the English club. The deal was done until Brentford encountered a knee problem during medical tests. Club always ruled that there was no issue, a judgment that was confirmed after additional investigations in Norway. His transfer to Brentford has been cancelled.
