The organization behind the Golden Shoe surprised Mignolet on the golden carpet in the run-up to the official start of the gala with his prize of Goalkeeper of the Year. It is the fourth time in a row for the 34-year-old Red Devil that he has won the trophy. After the end of 2019, 2020 and 2021, he was also voted the best goalkeeper on the Belgian football fields.
“It makes me very happy to win it four times in a row,” said Mignolet shortly. “It’s a sign that I’m consistently performing.”
Mignolet kept the blue and black alive in the play-offs last season, on their way to an eighteenth national title, the third in a row. In the autumn of last year, he was the exponent of Club Brugge, which is especially flashy in Europe, which managed to survive a tough group with FC Porto, Bayer Leverkusen and Atlético Madrid in the Champions League, so that it will face Benfica next month in the eighth finals.
The top five:
1. Simon Mignolet (Club Bruges) 891 points
2. Anthony Moris (Union) 358
3. Jean Butez (Antwerp FC) 343
4. Maarten Vandevoordt (KRC Genk) 141
5. Davy Roef (AA Gent) 59
