American tennis star asked advice from Kim Clijsters for Australian Open milestone: “She is the ‘OG’ tennis mom”

Taylor Townsend will not win the Australian Open, but the American did record a personal victory. Earlier this month she won her first singles match at a grand slam tournament since she became a mother. With some mental support from Kim Clijsters.

The 26-year-old Townsend is one of the better doubles players on the circuit. Last year she reached the semifinals at Roland Garros and the final at the US Open. And that as the proud mother of AJ It was not until Melbourne that she had to wait for her first single victory. In the first round of the Australian Open, the American was too strong for Diane Parry in two sets: 6-1 and 6-1.

And although she lost in three sets to Ekaterina Alexandrova (the 19th seed) in the second round, Townsend was officially happy. Kim Clijsters’ tips had clearly helped her resurrection.

“Kim was really chill and calm when I asked her for advice,” Townsend told “She said of: Just take your time and enjoy. That was my plan too, but still. She is of course the ‘original’, of tennis star who had a baby and then made a comeback (Towsend used the term ‘OG tennis mom, ed.). Her advice was extremely important to me. She did it, experienced it, came back better, won a grand slam tournament and said goodbye to tennis. That’s the best you can do.”

Townsend states that the Limburger urged her not to return to professional tennis too quickly.

“So that I wouldn’t immediately feel too much pressure,” it sounds. “So that was my mentality when I came back. I wanted to enjoy being a mom at the same time. I wanted to get to know my son. I never wanted to feel like I had to play tennis.”

Taylor Townsend failed to shine in doubles. In the women’s doubles she surprisingly lost in the second round, in the mixed doubles the quarterfinals were the final destination.
