Pier Eringa has immediately resigned as chairman of the supervisory board of Ajax. He will hand over his duties in the coming days and will formally resign on October 2, 2023.

“Especially when things are not going well, I think you should be there as a supervisor,” he said just before the resumption of the match against Feyenoord, which was halted on Sunday. “But I am not deaf to the criticism and not blind to the situation Ajax is in now. For that reason I have decided to make room for a new chairman. I have worked hard for the club. I will continue to follow Ajax as a fan and hope that the sporting performance will soon return to the level desired by Ajax.”

Supporters of the F-Side, the hard supporter core of Ajax, have demanded the departure of Eringa and the other members of the supervisory board in recent days. They also want interim director Jan van Halst and chief sports officer Maurits Hendriks to leave as soon as possible.

The 62-year-old Eringa was appointed chairman of the supervisory board of Ajax in March. De Fries was appointed for three years and eight months, until the general meeting of shareholders in November 2026.

Eringa succeeded Leen Meijaard, who took charge of the supervisory board on November 16, 2018. Ajax supporters accuse Eringa of not providing sufficient supervision. Football director Mislintat, who was dismissed on Sunday, brought head coach Maurice Steijn and twelve new players to Amsterdam in recent months for around 115 million euros. Mislintat became controversial last week because he did business with a player agency that has shares in a company in which he is also a shareholder.
