Ex-footballer Kevin-Prince Boateng has made himself heard again. The Ghanaian troublemaker was a guest on FIVE, the podcast of ex-football icon Rio Ferdinand, and spoke in detail about his (limited) time at FC Barcelona: “Messi and Ronaldo can go anywhere and score goals.”

A transfer that Barça fans still raise their eyebrows when they think about it. Kevin-Prince Boateng made a dream transfer to FC Barcelona in January 2019. The Ghanaian would spend six months there on a rental basis. He didn’t make an impression, but he made memories all the more. As a guest on FIVE, the podcast of ex-football icon Rio Ferdinand, Boateng briefly reflected on his six months in Catalonia. He included a nice anecdote about Lionel Messi, his then teammate. “Look at Messi. He is captain, but does not speak. He doesn’t even have to speak. He will do that on the field. In the locker room he maybe spoke to one person.”

“When I played for Barcelona I spoke to him once in the shower. He asked me if it was difficult to score in Italy because Ronaldo was playing for Juventus at that time. He asked me if he would score many goals there. “Of course,” I replied. ‘You are Messi. You score wherever you want’. But there you could see a bit of the rivalry between the two. They respect each other enormously, but there you could see a bit of rivalry between the two.”

“I told him that it is more difficult to score there. In Italy it is more important to keep a clean sheet than to score. But he would also score so many. Messi and Ronaldo can go anywhere and score goals. That’s also a reason why I don’t understand why Ronaldo is hated so much. People forget very quickly. Ronaldo scored two or three goals every game at Juventus. He did what he wanted. It’s really crazy what he did there.”
