On December 12, 2021, Vandelannoite was present in the well-known café Cambrinus in the Philipstockstraat in Bruges. According to the prosecutor, the dolls started dancing when a customer bumped into the former professional football player.
Free and senseless violence
“The defendant promptly dealt a few punches to the victim,” Fauve Nowé clarified. “His reaction was completely out of proportion.” The victim suffered a broken nose and eye socket. “This was gratuitous, senseless violence,” pleaded Emily De Ceuninck, the victim’s lawyer. She asked for 650 euros in compensation for her client.
Jason Vandelannoite did not show up for his trial on Tuesday. De Bruggeling would have admitted the facts at the time after being confronted with the camera images. The prosecutor also referred to a recent conviction of Vandelannoite before the Kortrijk criminal court. He was also sentenced to four months in prison for intentional assault and battery.
National team
As a young promise Jason Vandelannoite ended up in the first team of Club Brugge in 2005. That same year he was also called up for the first – and last – time for the Belgian national team. In April 2007 he was disciplinary suspended by the club and his contract was terminated a month later. Later he tried his luck in Turkey, Malta and Romania. In recent years he played in the lower echelons of Belgian football.
The court will rule on February 28.
