Magda Linette (WTA-45) qualified for the semi-finals of the Australian Open in Melbourne on Wednesday. Thirty-year-old Polish eliminated her Czech peer Karolina Pliskova (WTA-31), former number one in the world, 6-3 and 7-5. The game lasted an hour and 27 minutes.

In her first semifinal of a Grand Slam, Linette will face the winner of a duel between Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka (WTA-5) and Croatian Donna Vekic (WTA-64).
In the other semifinal, the Belarusian Victoria Azarenka (WTA-24) and the Kazakh Elena Rybakina (WTA-25) face each other.
Alexander Blockx to quarter finals junior tournament

Alexander Blockx (ITF-10) qualified for the quarterfinals of the junior tournament on Wednesday. The seventeen-year-old Belgian, third seed in Melbourne, beat the Bulgarian Adriano Dzhenev (ITF-27) in an hour and seven minutes 6-2 and 6-2.
For a place in the semifinals, Blockx will take to the Australian hard court for a duel with sixteen-year-old Brazilian Joao Fonseca (ITF-23), who eliminated Japanese sixth seed Rei Sakamoto (ITF-17) 6-3 and 6-4.
In doubles, Fonseca is Blockx’s partner. Together they form the first seed. In the second round (eighth finals) they will face the Canadian Keegan Rice and the South Korean Roh Hoyoung later that day.
