Things have not gone well for Johan Boskamp. The 74-year-old Dutchman suffered from heart problems and even ended up on the operating table. “It was very bad. I was almost at the bakery”, said the ex-trainer of Anderlecht, among others, at Veronica Offside.

Boskamp is normally one of the analysts – alongside ex-internationals Andy van der Meijde and Wesley Sneijder – in the Dutch football program, but he has not been seen on the tube in recent weeks. On Monday he explained why.
“It was completely wrong for a while. It was very bad. I was almost at the bakery. I went to Feyenoord for the first time yesterday and the doctors were there. They said it could. For this I spent six days in intensive care with heart complaints. I had already had keyhole surgery twice, and then they put in stents. But it didn’t get any better.”

Boskamp then sought medical attention again and was eventually fitted with a pacemaker. “They said: You can go home tomorrow. But I lay there for another twelve days, because I also got the RS virus and my lungs had filled up with water in the meantime. I peed out ten to twelve liters of fluid.”
But in the meantime things are moving in the right direction again with ‘Bossie’. “The doctors and nurses were fantastic. I told you, it’s unbelievable! I now feel better than ever.”
