Simon Mignolet has to flush seventh match without victory with Golden Boot: “I’m not sure yet”

Without accidents, Simon Mignolet will be handed the Golden Shoe on Wednesday, although the goalkeeper says he is not quite sure about that yet. “Look: I don’t have that in my own hands. I hope, of course, that people voted for me,” said Mignolet. “If it were successful, I would end up in an illustrious list. It would certainly be a great honor.” It has been 33 years since a goalkeeper, then Jean-Marie Pfaff, won the shoe again.

But in the meantime, the goalkeeper cannot ignore the bad period at Club Brugge. “2022 was wonderful for me and the club, but 2023 is off to a difficult start,” the goalkeeper also knows. “Our first half was not worthy for Club Brugge. The trainer has then done his job during the break. When are we going to see his hand? You saw that during the second half, because then it went much better. It’s really not good for us at the moment. You saw that with those two goals against. We are not allowed to make big long-term predictions now, but we have to work hard now to be able to win again.”
