No Stromae or Dimitri Vegas, but… the fans: the football association is looking for musical supporters to sing the official European Championship song

The Red Devils are gradually preparing for the European Football Championship in Germany next summer and so, as usual, an official song should not be missing. To encourage Kevin De Bruyne and co, the KBVB is looking for 1,500 fans who want to sing ‘Wunderbar’ in choir and alongside some Red Devils. And Jan Vertonghen, who can decide who will be the lucky ones.

The football association decided, for a change, not to get a big name to sing the official European Championship song of the Devils, called ‘Wunderbar’. Manu Leroy, director of marketing and communications at the KBVB, explains. “After the failed World Cup in Qatar and the end of the Golden Generation, there was a lot of negativity around the team. That is why we choose not to focus on the tournament in our campaign for the European Championship per se, but to put the supporters first. For example, there was the tifo with 25,000 signatures against Sweden, the King Baudouin Stadium turned completely red when Eden Hazard said goodbye, and children submitted drawings for the match against Azerbaijan. The European Championship song, by and for the supporters, must be the icing on the cake,” said Leroy.

The Football Association is not only looking for singers, guitarists and other musicians will also be crucial to create one big music spectacle. You can audition until April 15 via www.wunderbar-band.be. “It’s mainly about fun and passion. The more original, the better,” Leroy emphasizes.

Vertonghen judges, Carrasco sings

None other than record international Jan Vertonghen has been given the task of putting the band together. The defender of Anderlecht will, together with a jury, select 1,500 artists who will shape our European Championship song alongside Amadou Onana and Yannick Carrasco (and other Red Devils?). “I hope that many fans will submit an audition, so that I can put together a fantastic band together with the other jury members. Our fans and their supporters’ songs really drive us forward. If 1,500 supporters sing our European Championship song, it promises to be a goosebump moment,” said Vertonghen.
