Another loss for the Yellow Tigers. Jodie Guilliams retires as international. The 25-year-old from Limburg was still part of the successful World Cup selection last fall.

In recent years, half a dozen potential core players have canceled their participation in the national team. According to insiders, at least four of them point to the toxic climate that would prevail under national coach Gert Vande Broek. Last year, Kaja Grobelna and Ilka Van de Vyver withdrew. Van de Vyver then reported that she would consider a return under a new national coach.

In December 2021, the testimonies of three former internationals discredited the national coach. The 56-year-old Vande Broek was accused of abuse of power and mentally transgressive behavior. The Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office then started an investigation, which heard dozens of people charged and charged. Last week the conclusion followed that there was indeed (mentally) transgressive behaviour. The disciplinary council within Volley Vlaanderen will now “deliberate on an appropriate disciplinary sanction” for the targeted coach.
