The European football association UEFA decided on Thursday to keep the score of the match between Belgium and Sweden that was suspended on Monday evening as the final final result. The Belgian and Swedish Football Associations previously indicated that they were satisfied with this outcome.

Due to the terrorist attack on Monday evening near the King Baudouin Stadium, the second half between the Red Devils and Sweden in the European Championship qualifying campaign was no longer completed.

According to Article 29 of the UEFA regulations, the match had to be completed the next day. But that was out of the question, as the Swedish players were transferred to the airport under police escort on Monday night and immediately boarded a plane to Sweden. The Red Devils also returned home.

On Tuesday, Manu Leroy, interim CEO of the Royal Belgian Football Association (KBVB), stated that the football association would not insist on a forfeit score and that “the best solution” would be to let the match end 1-1. “We are not going to cling to our seed status. At some point, ethics and morality have to prevail.”

With a points division, Belgium is not yet completely certain of the group win in group F. With 17 out of 21, the Red Devils have one point more than Austria, which won 0-1 in Azerbaijan on Monday evening. On November 19, the Azeris will travel to Brussels on the last day of the European Championship qualifications.

Despite the draw against Sweden, Belgium will most likely be the seed during the draw on Saturday, December 2 in Hamburg, provided they win against Azerbaijan. Only Hungary can keep the Red Devils out of the top five best group winners, but the Belgians have a much more positive goal difference.
