The Gianluigi Buffon of Spain, or not so bad (just yet)? Anyway, it’s still very pretty. Pepe Reina (40) extends his contract with Villarreal for at least one season, which means that a special record is now very close.
Reina can become the first player ever to make playing minutes in 24 consecutive seasons in one of the five largest leagues in Europe (England, Germany, France, Italy and Spain). Perhaps that will happen soon, because at 40 Reina is still an excellent goalkeeper and is the number 1 under the crossbar at Villareal.

Reina made her debut at the highest level at FC Barcelona in December 2000. He then replaced Frenchman Richard Dutruel in the away game at Celta Vigo, which ended 3-3. Reina stayed with the Blaugrana for another 2 years after his debut.
In 2002 Reina left for Villarreal, but success followed later, at Liverpool. With that club he won the Champions League during the eight seasons that he was active at Anfield. Then Reina crossed some more European fields. He played at Napoli, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Aston Villa, Lazio Roma and since the summer of 2022 again at Villarreal. Reina was not first choice everywhere, but made playing minutes in the first team at every club, so that record is now awfully close.
