The women of OH Leuven can face the Christmas holidays with peace of mind. Beforehand they were wary of the dangerous trip to AA Gent, but in the end they won easily 1-4.

“Our first half was otherwise quite difficult,” says T2 Sam Lismont. “Ghent is normally always a team that plays openly and offensively, but it now started with five defenders. We were not prepared for that. We had most of the ball before half time, but created few real goal chances. Moreover, we had to take Valesca Ampoorter off with a muscle injury. Fortunately, Zenia Mertens proved that she is back on track again. After the break we adjusted and suddenly we were walking smoothly over it. We scored four times, again did not take any cards and can go into the new year with peace of mind.”

Striking: Faye Lammertijn was under the bar instead of the Spanish Noelia Gil. “Faye is a good goalkeeper. It’s just a shame that she has been struggling from one injury to another since 2021. She had an incredible amount of bad luck and had to fight back for a long time. We also knew that when she returned she would be able to take her place under the bar again. Last week she played for the first time with the B team and now she was already in goal for the A’s.”

Perfect end to 2023, we would think. “Most can now fully concentrate on their exams, the rest can take a little rest. Although that may be wrongly expressed. After one more week of training, everyone will receive an individual schedule to take home. So doing nothing at all will not be an option. After all, after New Year follows an important period, with almost only top performers. Moreover, we certainly want to continue working on our weaker points. What are they? Learning to remain calm, not wanting to act hastily, as was sometimes the case in the past. These are details that may soon make the difference. We will continue to build on our good momentum.”
