Michael Frey was missing from the Antwerp match sheet against Union after expressing his dissatisfaction with his limited playing minutes. Schalke 04, the red lantern in the Bundesliga, keeps an eye on his situation. Frey is charmed and the first contacts have been made, but Antwerp has no surplus in the front, so the club’s position is clear: Frey cannot leave.
There is also interest from the Jupiler Pro League, including from Charleroi and OHL, but De Zwitser is unattainable for those clubs. In addition to Schalke, AEK Athens and Venezia are also interested abroad.
“Michael has trained individually the last few days”, Antwerp coach Mark van Bommel remained blank. “We decided in mutual consultation that he would not be there against Union. A new week will start soon, then we will see how it goes.”
The start of a new week also meant new opportunities for Michael Frey, as it turned out. De Zwister just appeared on group training on Monday. So it looks like his ban will only last one match. Next Wednesday Antwerp will go to KV Oostende, Standard will visit on Sunday.
