Alison Van Uytvanck (WTA-68) was unable to qualify for the second round of the Australian Open. The 28-year-old Flemish Brabant had to give up in one hour and 32 minutes 7-6 (7/3) and 6-2 to the Czech Petra Kvitova (WTA-15), fifteenth seed in Melbourne.

Kvitova, a two-time winner at Wimbledon (2011, 2014) and runner-up at the Australian Open in 2019, will face the winner of a duel between the Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina (WTA-39) and the American CoCo in her next match. Vandeweghe (WTA-139). That battle will be settled on Monday.

It is the eighth time in ten participations that Van Uytvanck is already out in the first round. For the past two years, it has finished in the second round. She also never made it past the second round at the US Open. She can present better results for the other two Grand Slams, with a quarterfinal at Roland-Garros (2015) and an eighth final at Wimbledon (2018).
