Elise Mertens loses five places on new WTA ranking

The Belgian number one lost last week in the first round of the WTA 250 tournament in Hobart to compatriot Maryna Zanevska. She lost a few points and ends up outside the top 30 again. In doubles she remains number five in the world.

The other Belgian women in the top 100 made a profit. Alison Van Uytvanck, who is the only Belgian to play on Monday on the opening day of the Australian Open, climbed two places and is now 68th. Maryna Zanevska jumped seven places to 80th and Ysaline Bonaventure gained two spots. She is 90th.

The Swiss Belinda Bencic climbed three places thanks to her final victory at the WTA 500 tournament in Adelaide and is now tenth. Furthermore, nothing changed at the top of the WTA ranking. The Polish Iga Swiatek leads with a big lead over the Tunisian Ons Jabeur and the American Jessica Pegula.
