Chelsea secured the services of Mykhailo Mudryk on Sunday. The 22-year-old Ukrainian comes over from Shakhtar Donetsk and signed a contract for no less than 8.5 years at Stamford Bridge. Shakhtar receives 70 million euros for the young left winger, and an additional 30 million euros in bonuses can be added.

The Shakhtar Donetsk attacker has been in the interest of a whole list of Premier League teams for some time. Arsenal showed emphatic interest, but in the end it is fellow townsman Chelsea who brings the Ukrainian in. The Blues pay 70 million euros for Mudryk. There may be another 30 million euros in bonuses on top of that. Shakhtar made those figures public on its website.
“I’m so happy to be here,” Mudryk, an eight-time Ukrainian international, said in an initial response to Chelsea’s website. “This is a huge club, in a fantastic league. It is a very attractive project for me at this point in my career. I look forward to meeting my new teammates and working and learning from coach Graham Potter and his staff.” At Shakhtar, Mudryk impressed this season with ten goals and eight assists in eighteen games.

Mudryk was introduced on Sunday at half-time in Chelsea’s 1-0 win against Crystal Palace. The Blues could use his help, because for the time being they are only joint ninth in the Premier League. Chelsea has already been eliminated in the FA Cup and League Cup, but will still play in the Champions League. Borussia Dortmund is the opponent in the eighth finals.
Earlier this winter mercato, Chelsea also brought defender Benoit Badiashile (Monaco), midfielder Andrey Santos (Vasco da Gama) and attackers Joao Felix (Atlético Madrid, loan) and David Datro Fofana (Molde) on board.
