After a draw in the debut of the Paulista Championship, Abel Ferreira asks for reinforcements after departures of starters

Palmeiras debuted at Paulistão 2023 with a goalless draw against São Bento, at Allianz Parque. In the press conference after the game, the Portuguese coach said that Verdão will need to hire a defensive midfielder after Danilo leaves.

It is worth remembering that the steering wheel was sold for 20 million euros (about 111 million reais), to Nottingham Forest, from the Premier League.

“Of course we need to run for backup. Palmeiras is a financially and sportingly responsible club. Of course we are looking for a quality player, they paid 20 million for Danilo and you pay for quality. One left and another quality one has to come in. And quality costs money – said Abel Ferreira.

Recently, two players were speculated at Verdão, Matheus Henrique, formerly of Grêmio, and currently at Sassuolo, of Italy, and Jean Lucas, formerly of Flamengo and Santos, who currently belongs to Monaco, of France.

While no player arrives to make up for the absences of Scarpa and Danilo, Palmeiras has Gabriel Menino, Fabinho and Jailson as options for the position.

Finally, Abel Ferreira’s team returns to the field next Thursday (19), against Botafogo-SP, in Santa Cruz, on the other hand, São Bento, receives Santo André, next Tuesday ( 17).
