In 24 hours, a ‘diss track’ by Shakira on YouTube was viewed more than 63 million times. A record: the single ‘Out of your league’ became the most viewed Latin song in the history of the video platform one day after its release.

Colombian singer Shakira shared a new single on Thursday, baptized ‘BZRP music session #53’ on Youtube. The song, a collaboration with Argentinian DJ/producer Bizarrap, is openly about Shakira’s split with football star Gerard Piqué, the 45-year-old singer’s ex-husband. In June last year, the two announced their separation.
In the uptempo song, Shakira takes a hard look at her ex. “You say you’re a champion. And when I needed you, you were at your worst” And then: “Sorry honey, I should have kicked you out a while ago.”
New girlfriend
A little later she refers to Piqué’s new girlfriend, 23-year-old Clara Chia Marti: “She has the name of a good person, but clearly she is not what she sounds like. (…) I wish you luck with my supposed replacement, I don’t even know what happened to you.”
Furthermore, Shakira sings, “I’m worth two 22 (years old). You traded a Ferrari for a Twingo. You traded a Rolex for a Casio. You go fast, slow down a bit. Lots of time in the gym, but you brains also need to be put to work.”
After the couple’s breakup, Piqué soon appeared in public with Marti, who works for his production company. Pique has not yet responded to the revenge number.
Tax fraud
During the song, Shakira also talks about the painful after-effects of their breakup. For example, she sings: “My in-laws were left behind as neighbors, media at my door and in debt to the government.” She is talking about the tax fraud case against her in Spain. The Spanish prosecutor claims that the singer avoided 14.5 million euros in taxes.
Earlier this year, Shakira was much more lenient in a New Year’s message to her fans on Instagram. In it she wrote, among other things, that those who have been betrayed “must persevere”. “Even if our wounds are still open in this new year, time has the hands of a surgeon,” she wrote.
