The Task Force that has to find a national coach and technical director for the football association met for the first time on Friday. The many hundreds of candidacies were reduced to a shortlist via a longlist, but no steps have yet been taken towards real candidates. Some obstacles still need to be overcome. The demands imposed by the Task Force – serial winnerexperience in international football, being able to work with stars… – are also quite a few. A breakthrough is only expected in two weeks.

Meanwhile, the name of Michel Preud’homme keeps returning, as national coach but especially as technical director. That is the position he also held between 2002 and 2006, but then under the name of ‘chairman of the technical committee’. The almost 64-year-old ex-Red Devil and former trainer of Standard, AA Gent, FC Twente and Club Brugge, among others, did not send an application letter to the union and would therefore mainly qualify for the post of technical director.
