Spain placed second on Wednesday evening for the final of the European Football Championship for promises in Romania and Georgia. In the second semi-final of the day, La Roja beat Ukraine 5-1 at the Steaua stadium in the Romanian capital Bucharest.

However, it was the Ukrainians who had taken the lead early in the match. Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Artem Bondarenko opened the score after thirteen minutes on the instructions of Chelsea million-dollar purchase Mykhailo Mudryk. They couldn’t enjoy that lead for long. Four minutes later Abel Ruiz scored the equalizer, another seven minutes later Spain took the lead thanks to a goal from Oihan Sancet.

After the break, Real Madrid goldcrest Antonio Blanco further extended the lead to 3-1, Aimar Oroz removed the last doubts with the fourth Spanish goal after 68 minutes. Twelve minutes before the end of regular playing time, Sergio Gomez, ex-Anderlecht and now at Manchester City, put the 5-1 final score on the scoreboard.

Spain will now have to move, as the final will be played on Saturday at the Batumi Stadium in Georgia. Earlier on Wednesday, England beat the surprising Israel with a dry 0-3 in the first semi-final. Morgan Gibbs-White first missed a penalty in the 17th minute, but single-handedly corrected that mistake with the opening goal in the 42nd minute. Cole Palmer (63.) finally put the game in a decisive fold and the substitute Cameron Archer (90.) determined the final score in the final.

Israel’s U21 are coached by former Standard coach Guy Luzon. They made it to the last four by knocking co-organizer Georgia out of the tournament on penalties in the quarter-finals.

The English reserves won the European Championship twice, in 1982 and 1984, when Spain was beaten. In 2009, the German promises were too strong in the final battle. Spain is a five-time European champion. The last time in 2019 when Germany was defeated. Two years ago they had to settle for a place in the semi-finals.
