After an hour and 33 minutes, the 1-6, 6-1 and 6-1 final score was on the scoreboard. The match was halted for an hour at the start of the third set due to rain.

It was the sixth game between the experienced thirties. It is now tied 3-3. Gasquet had also won their last meeting, in October last year at the European Open in Antwerp (6-2, 7-6). Along the way, Goffin showed a fantastic point.

David Goffin can now focus on the Australian Open, which starts next week. He will play in the first round against the French qualifier Laurent Lokoli (ATP 176). In the past two years, Goffin was knocked out in the first round in Melbourne. A quarter final in 2017 is his best result.

For a place in the final, Gasquet will compete against the Serbian Laslo Djere (ATP 70) or the Frenchman Constant Lestienne (ATP 65). The other semifinal is between the American Jenson Brooksby (ATP 48) and the British second seed Cameron Norrie (ATP 12).
