Romeo Lavia and Southampton have caused a stunt in the quarter-finals of the English League Cup. It held up at home against Manchester City – which started the game without its stars – and eventually won 2-0. Romeo Lavia completed the hour.

At Manchester City, stars Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland started on the bench, but with Jack Grealish, Julian Alvarez and Phil Phoden, among others, the national champion still had a lot of luxury between the lines. Southampton was not intimidated and only had a crazy five minutes with goals from Sekou Mara (23′) and Moussa Djenepo (28′, ex-Standard) in the first half to pull off a stunt. Our compatriot Roméo Lavia receives the assist for the second goal, although Djenepo still had a lot of work to do.
The Saints held on, despite De Bruyne’s input, at half-time, and Haaland, ten minutes into the second half, held on and converted and so on. Southampton will face Newcastle United in the semi-finals.
