The ball just rolled into the Elindus Arena and referee Alexandre Boucaut already had to hand out a red card. STVV goalkeeper Schmidt arrived – albeit just outside the penalty area – too late on Zulte Waregem midfielder Dani Ramirez. The Japanese goalkeeper was allowed to take a shower after 46 seconds.

The game was therefore immediately stopped for five minutes because reserve goalkeeper Jo Coppens had to prepare himself completely unexpectedly for an evening of cup football. Olivier Dumont was the child of the bill. The 20-year-old midfielder from Sint-Truiden was sacrificed. STVV had to work with one man less for an entire match.

And what a raid it was for Coppens. Essevee received a penalty for handplay from Al-Dakhil just after fifteen minutes and could already be sitting on roses, but STVV’s 32-year-old reserve goalkeeper took Zinho Gano’s penalty.
