In the play-off round of the CEV Cup volleyball, Maaseik won 3-1 against the Czech Ceske Budejovice on Wednesday. The set scores were 25-22, 20-25, 25-17 and 25-22. The second leg will follow in two weeks in the Czech Republic. The winner will meet one of the worst numbers three from the Champions League in the quarter-finals.
Ghent women suffer 3-2 defeat in Spain
In the eighth finals of the CEV Cup for women’s teams, Ghent lost its first leg against Spanish Kiele Socuellamos 3-2 on Wednesday. It gave away a 0-2 lead. The set scores were 20-25, 23-25, 25-15, 25-19 and 15-13. The second leg will be played next Wednesday.
The winner of the game will meet Spain’s Gran Canaria or Poland’s Budowlani Lodz in a play-off round for a quarter-final against a team from the Champions League. Gran Canaria won its first leg against Lodz 3-1 (20-25, 25-10, 25-21, 25-22).
Asterix Avo takes option on Challenge Cup quarterfinals
Asterix Avo Beveren recorded a 1-3 win against Greek Aris Saloniki in the first leg of his eighth final in the Challenge Cup for women’s teams on Wednesday. The set scores were 22-25, 25-21, 23-25 and 23-25. The second leg will be played next Wednesday.
With a win, the Belgian champion will give the Portuguese Kairos Ponta Delgada or the Romanian CSM Lugoj a place in the semi-finals. They play their first leg on Thursday.
