João Félix leaves the Spanish Atlético Madrid and moves to Chelsea until the end of the season. The Portuguese, who did sign a contract extension in the Spanish capital, came over from Benfica a few years ago for a lot of money, but was never able to live up to expectations in Madrid. At Chelsea he has to solve the Blues’ scoring problem.

What has been in the air for a while has just been made official. João Félix leaves Atlético Madrid and moves to Chelsea for six months. Chelsea would pay a sloppy ten million euros to bring the Portuguese to London for six months.

Graham Potter’s troops now have an offensive option. The Blues are having a disappointing season and are only tenth in the English top division after seventeen match days. Chelsea could only score 20 goals this season. So it’s up to Félix to solve that problem.

“It’s a dream come true,” Félix told the club channels. “Chelsea are one of the best teams in the world and I hope to help the team achieve their goals, so I’m really happy to be here and very excited to play at Stamford Bridge.”

Contract renewal

João Félix may move to Chelsea, but that does not mean that they no longer believe in the Portuguese at Atlético. Félix signed a contract extension in Madrid until 2027 and will therefore return to Madrid after that half year in London.

The Portuguese attacker has been under contract with Atlético since 2019, which paid an astronomical amount of 126 million to take him away from Benfica. But under Diego Simeone, the Portuguese’s talent was only sporadically expressed.
