AC Milan won with the smallest difference (0-1) on matchday 8 in Serie A on Saturday evening when they visited Koni De Winter’s Genoa. The Belgian promising international was taken off in the very last minute of added time.
Christian Pulisic scored the only goal of the match after 87 minutes. Both teams ultimately finished with one man less after a silly final phase. At Genoa, Josep Martinez was sent off the field with a second yellow card and at the Rossoneri, goalkeeper Mike Maignan received a red card. That ensured that Olivier Giroud took over in goal for the final minutes.
And the Frenchman also made himself useful by diving a ball from the feet of Genoa striker George Pușcaș in the absolute final phase. His teammates immediately congratulated the 37-year-old goalkeeper on his excellent intervention.
Thanks to the narrow victory, the seventh of the season, Milan takes full advantage of the loss of points to city rivals Inter earlier in the day. With 21 points, AC Milan are now alone in the lead, two points more than the Nerazzurri. Genoa is in fifteenth place with eight points.
