According to the Ghanaian website www.3news.com, Francis Amuzu is now eligible to play for Ghana. Amuzu was born in Accra, Ghana, but moved to Belgium at a very young age. There he ended up at Anderlecht.

He already played in the shirt of the Red Devils with the U19 and U21, but not yet with the elite. He was called up by Roberto Martinez in 2021 for the UEFA Nations League games against Wales and the Netherlands, but did not play a single minute.

“Obligated to play for my motherland”

In a letter to FIFA, Amuzu explains his decision to play for Ghana: “The motivation behind this decision is that I consider it an obligation to play for my mother country, as my parents are Ghanaian.”

According to the Ghanaian press, Majeed Ahimer, Amuzu’s teammate at Anderlecht, played a key role in his decision to switch nationality. Now that the request has been granted, Amuzu is hoping for a first roster for the Black Stars in March.
