Sébastien Haller has celebrated a surprisingly quick comeback a few months after his second operation for testicular cancer. In Marbella, Spain, the attacker came on in the 74th minute in a friendly match against Fortuna Düsseldorf (5-1 win), his first minutes in the shirt of Borussia Dortmund.

“It was a great moment for me. I felt a lot of support. I tried to make sure the coach had no alternative and worked hard for this moment,” said an emotional Haller, who underwent four rounds of chemotherapy.

Haller exchanged Ajax for Dortmund last summer, the transfer involved an amount of 31.5 million euros. A few weeks later, testicular cancer was diagnosed. The 28-year-old Ivorian international underwent a second operation at the end of November.

After his first appearance for Dortmund, hopes are growing that Haller will be part of the squad for the resumption of the Bundesliga season on January 22 at home against FC Augsburg. “Everything is possible. In my head there are no boundaries. I will do my best to be there on January 22,” said the Ivorian on Monday.

Thorgan Hazard played the first half at Dortmund on Tuesday. Thomas Meunier came on at half time.
