Thomas Müller does not intend to end his international career. After Germany’s swift exit from the World Cup in Qatar, the 33-year-old attacker hinted that he might retire as an international, but that will not happen. On Monday, he confirmed at Bayern Munich’s training camp in Doha that he will remain available.

“I will remain at the disposal of the national team if they need me, as long as I am a professional footballer,” said Müller. “It means nothing to me to stop if a national coach can still use me. I can live with not being called, even if I wanted to be there. It is up to the coach to decide when and how. The goal is to be successful again. It’s not about individuals. Hansi (Flick, ed.) has many options in the front. I am relaxed but will definitely be there if the coach needs me.”

The 121-time international showed last month after Germany’s early elimination at the World Cup that his international career was over, but according to Müller, emotions played tricks on him after the last group match against Costa Rica.

The 2014 world champion, who was passed by former coach Joachim Löw a few years ago together with Mats Hummels, among others, says he is not yet looking forward to the next European Championship. This will be organized in Germany in 2024. “The European Championship in our own country is not yet a topic,” he assured. “We have a good team here (with Bayern, ed.) And our goals are big. I want to be on the field and have fun. We will see what happens between now and 2024.”
