Footballers who have lost their hearts to one particular club: they exist. And Lucas Pérez is one of them. The Spanish attacker was active at Cadiz, but longed to play at ‘his’ Deportivo de la Coruna again. No sooner said than done.

Pérez had been the target man at Cadiz in La Liga since last year, but something tickled the now 34-year-old Spaniard. Namely a return to Deportivo de la Coruna, the team of his hometown. He was willing to pay a lot for that, because Pérez (who also played for Arsenal in the past) actually paid part of the transfer fee (reportedly about 500,000 euros) out of his own pocket to facilitate the switch.
Deportivo has strayed into the Spanish third division in recent years and is currently fourth there. Pérez immediately made a debut on Sunday to frame, because with two goals he had a significant share in the 3-0 win against Unionistas.
