Strasbourg is in nineteenth and penultimate place in Ligue 1 with eleven points from seventeen matches. Ajaccio, sixteenth (and first non-relegated), has four points more.

The 42-year-old Stéphan has been training Strasbourg since the summer of 2021. He led the club to sixth place in Ligue 1 last season, but this season the team from Alsace won only once.
