Previously, she was present at EURO 2022 in England and the U20 World Cup in Costa Rica. She was an assistant referee at the 2015 World Cup in Canada. “Of course I am very happy and excited to be selected for the upcoming World Cup,” says De Vries. “I hope to represent Belgium as well as possible at this tournament and to deliver a great performance.” Since last season she has been a fixed value as a video referee in Belgian men’s and women’s football.
In total, FIFA appointed nineteen video referees, 55 assistant referees and 33 referees. De Vries is our only compatriot on the list. The most famous ref in the selection is undoubtedly the French Stéphanie Frappart. At the end of last year, she was the first female head referee ever to work at the men’s World Cup in Qatar. There she took care of the group duel between Costa Rica and Germany.
