Club Brugge was not yet able to grace its first match under Scott Parker with a victory. On the field of leader Racing Genk, it went down 3-1 after a thrilling match. Despite the defeat, the new coach was satisfied with certain things he saw with the national champion.

“Of course I’m disappointed, because we didn’t get the result we had in mind,” Parker told Eleven. “I have certainly seen a lot of good things at times. The chances we created were proof that our work over the past few days has already paid off. That was also the case with the beautiful goal. On the other hand, there are of course still things we need to work on. But that goes without saying. We will now work towards the form we want to be as a team. I felt that the players at least picked up certain details very quickly. Other things have not yet materialized due to lack of time, but we will get there if we keep working hard in the near future.”
Parker elaborated a bit on what he believed to be “good things.” “The way certain opportunities were created makes me very happy. They matched how I gave the players certain ideas. Their surrender, their effort, etc. were right, that’s what I asked about before kick-off. But the fans were also fantastic: how they supported the team after a 3-1 defeat, I’m not used to that in England. It is clear that the supporters will be important to us in the future.”
Yaremchuk was offered a goal on a silver platter by Mats Rits in the second half, but the Ukrainian still managed to kill Club Brugge’s huge chance. “Yes, maybe Rits should have finished it himself. But on the other hand: Roman (Yaremchuk, ed.) Must be very disappointed that he didn’t finish that chance. At other times that ball just goes in, but he knows he should have done better,” said Parker.
