Sander Gillé and Joran Vliegen were overjoyed on Saturday after their doubles title at the ATP tournament in Indian Pune (hard / $ 642,735). The team from Limburg put the icing on the cake in the final by winning 6-4 and 6-4 against home players N. Sriram Balaji and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan.

“We are very satisfied”, said Vliegen after the overall victory. “We stayed very focused in a Davis Cup atmosphere and served well. We didn’t even give away a single break ball.”

It was the sixth title for 31-year-old Gillé and 29-year-old Vliegen, the first since Singapore in February 2021. “This title is very important to us. Everyone knows what kind of season we had last year”, added Gillé. “It’s the ideal start! It will give us a lot of motivation and confidence. If we keep playing like this, we have the means to go far at the Australian Open.”

For the Australian Open – which starts on January 16 – Vliegen and Gillé will participate together in the Auckland ATP tournament.
