It became 6-7 (8/10), 7-6 (7/3) and 6-4 after a battle of three hours and eleven minutes. At the end of the second set, Djokovic saved a match point at 5-6 on his own service.
The 35-year-old Djokovic now has 92 ATP titles on his honors list. That is as many as Rafael Nadal. Only Jimmy Connors (109), Roger Federer (103) and Ivan Lendl (94) do better in the open era (entrance of professional tennis in 1968).
Djokovic will aim for a tenth overall victory at the Australian Open later this month. Last year, the 21-time Grand Slam champion missed the tournament because he was not allowed to enter the country due to his refusal to be vaccinated against corona.
The 22-year-old Korda played his fifth ATP final on Sunday, but is currently stuck on one title, his tournament win in 2021 in Parma.
