Four Belgian tennis players, two men and two women, will try to qualify for the main draw of the Australian Open in Melbourne in the coming days.

In the men’s Zizou Bergs (ATP 129) is the twentieth seed in the qualifications. He will meet Australian Jeremy Lin (ATP 990) in the first preliminary round. Kimmer Coppejans (ATP 218) also opens against a local player, Tristan Schoolkate (ATP 210). Just like Lin, he received a wildcard from the organization.
Among the women, Greet Minnen (WTA 225) faces the Swiss Simona Waltert (WTA 125), the twentieth seed. Magali Kempen (WTA 211) in turn will compete against the Brazilian Laura Pigossi (WTA 118) in the first round.
Whoever wins three qualifying matches is in the main draw. Bergs and Kempen will be the first Belgians to take action on Monday. With the men, only David Goffin (ATP 53) is currently certain of a place in the main table, with the women Elise Mertens (WTA 27), Alison Van Auytvanck (WTA 70), Maryna Zanveska (WTA 87) and Ysaline Bonaventure ( WTA 92) already at least four compatriots along.
