“It is with great sadness that Vasco da Gama learned that our greatest player ever left us on Sunday. Carlos Roberto de Oliveira, aka Dinamite, devoted 29 of his 68 years to the club, as player and president. Rest in peace,” he tweeted.

To date, Dinamite holds the record for goals scored in the National Championship with 190, well ahead of Fred (158).

He made 38 appearances for the Brazilian national team, including minutes at the 1978 and 1982 World Cups, and scored 20 goals.
